Youth Trained Both Sides of the Nile

“We just concluded trainings for our youth leadership on both the East and West Banks of the Nile,” shared Juma, Youth Director in South Sudan. Juma goes on to share about three of the training events for youth.

East Bank Region-Nimule

Youth gather firewood to make the evening meal.

One of the conferences in the East Bank region on the border with Uganda lasted three days instead of the hoped for five days due to budget shortage. But in the three days, the 37 youth leaders where challenged to dedicate their lives to their work as though they were working for God, not an earthly master (Colossians 3:23). The overall objective of the conference was to equip and reequip the youth leaders for efficiency and effectiveness.

Topics covered included:

  • Communication Skills
  • Entrepreneurship Skills
  • Basic Financial Management Skills
  • Worship, Prayer, and Praise

East Bank Region-Torit

The Youth in Torit organized a three-day Youth Leadership Conference in August. The theme was servant leadership, and 98 youth from five local churches attended. The youth shared how grateful they are for the Africa Inland Church and their continued support for the youth activities in the area. As a result of the conference, the youth gained a better understanding about servant leadership.

The overall challenges in the East Bank region have to do with the security situation. The area is not stable, and as a result most of the youth activities that have been planned have not taken place. The leadership is waiting for conducive environment to carry on with their activities. They are working on a very tight budget, and the market prices are high due to the economic crisis in the country. We still managed, but we have learned that next time we should plan ahead to raise a bit more support.

West Bank Region-Juba

A two-day youth workshop brought 75 youth leaders from the West Bank region to Juba, the capital of South Sudan, September 29-30. Rev. John, Deputy Secretary of South Sudan Council of Churches, spoke on Conflict Resolution the Biblical way. Youth shared how the training had changed their thinking, especially in the area of conflict resolution and mitigations. It taught them about how to resolve conflict based on Biblical approaches and principles.

The main problem we faced in this event was the short time allotted for the training. We trust we can make it a day or two longer next year.

We are so thankful for Partners International because of their support, both prayerfully and financially.
