Our partners in West Africa are church-planting ministries focused on sharing Christ with Muslims and unreached tribal groups including the Dagomba, Ligby, Tuareg, and Wolof. We also support holistic projects that address the tremendous humanitarian needs in the region and demonstrate the love of God. While we assist a variety of projects, we also believe that developing the core of the Church—its leaders—and helping ministries increase their own income-generating capacity are essential to the health of the West African Church in the future.

An area known for political instability and economic insecurity, West Africa is home to 147 million people, nearly 60 percent of whom are Muslim. The 11 nations that make up the region include some of the poorest countries in the world. They rate near the bottom of the United Nations’ Human Development Index for life expectancy, economic development, and education. Only Chad, Ghana, and Ivory Coast have a significant percentage of indigenous Christians. Primarily Islamic, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal are less than one percent evangelical. Islam in these nations is different from Islam elsewhere. It is made up of brotherhoods where social and familial relationships are extremely important, making conversion to Christianity especially difficult. West Africa’s southern edge is the frontline along which Islam is advancing into sub-Saharan Africa. We invite you to invest in our work in West Africa—an area of great need and opportunity and where the future of Christianity in Africa will be decided.
