Partners International works with a number of locally-led ministries whose focus is to see the people of the region embrace Jesus Christ as Savior. Our primary strategies in South Asia involve evangelism and church planting in areas with few or no churches. We also focus on unreached populations such as high-caste Hindus and Muslims, as well as leadership training, community development, and outreach to women and children.

The country that dominates South Asia is India, a nation diverse in language, religion, culture, and lifestyle. Though India has more than one billion Hindus, it is also the third largest Muslim country in the world with more than 160 million Muslims. With a staggering 4,635 distinct people groups, India is home to the “greatest concentration of lostness on earth.” Though India is a secular and democratic country, religious persecution has increased dramatically in recent years as fundamentalists call for a return to Hinduism. So far, six states have adopted anti-conversion laws which hamper freedom of ministry. Bracketing India are three other unreached countries—Nepal and Sri Lanka which are predominantly Hindu, and Bangladesh which is Muslim. Having partnered with local ministries in South Asia since the 1960s, we continue to see amazing results from our partners’ evangelistic efforts.
