Because of the strict restrictions on evangelism, one of the most successful tools for sharing the Word of God to Persians is through Gospel radio programs. However, these radio programs cannot organize house churches, and strict censorship makes it difficult to send Christian literature through the mail. In response to this challenge, a group of Persian Christians started the Persian Ministry to follow up with and disciple radio listeners and Muslim seekers. Partners International has supported this work since its inception in 2001. Our assistance has been instrumental in establishing a safe training location, equipping Christian leaders for outreach, and caring for the persecuted.

Though made up of a diverse collection of sub-groups, the 52 million Persian people are united by a common language–Persian (Farsi)–and a common religion–Shiite Islam. Nearly 99 percent of Persians are Muslim, yet many are becoming more and more disillusioned with Islam, and their hearts are open to the truth and love of Jesus.

Muslims who seek to learn more about Jesus face tremendous risks. Persian believers experience one of the highest rates of religious persecution in the world. Many house churches have been raided and disbanded. Believers who have dared to share the Gospel openly have endured great persecution. Despite the incredible challenges, believers continue to reach out to a surprisingly responsive people. It is estimated that 700,000 to one million Persians have converted to Christianity over the past 30 years.
