Guinea’s mineral wealth makes it potentially one of Africa’s richest countries, but its people are among the poorest in West Africa. Experiments with socialism and a two-year rule by junta have taken a toll on the people of Guinea. The 2010 election ushered in civilian rule but led to violent ethnic clashes as well. In addition, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Liberia and Sierra Leone have strained Guinea’s struggling economy. The Evangelical Fountain of Grace (EFG) was born when a pastor (Etienne Leno), a missionary, an economic operator and a young entrepreneur saw the economic plight of the faithful believers in their church. These four Christian men set up a small micro-credit fund to help women and girls develop small, income-generating enterprises. This fund has improved the economy of many women and connected them to the church. This success then prompted them to create a non-government organization to diversify their activities, improve social conditions, promote evangelism and establish churches. Partners International began partnering with Evangelical Fountain of Grace during the Ebola crisis in 2015.
