The son of non-Christian parents, Ramesh came to know Christ during his college days. After supervising community development projects across North India for many years, Ramesh was burdened to launch a new ministry organization to reach the millions of unreached Muslims across the region. Following the prompting of the Holy Spirit, Ramesh founded COI in 1993 and continues to serve as its director. Working together since 2006, Partners is helping COI pursue its vision of equipping North Indian church leaders to plant healthy, multiplying churches that lead to community transformation.

Even after decades of missionary work, only about two percent of India’s 1.2 billion people are Christian. North India has more than 400 million people and several hundred people groups with populations of up to several million each. Just one percent are Christians.

Though outlawed, the Hindu caste system remains prevalent. Despite economic modernization and laws countering discrimination against the lower end of the class structure, the caste system remains an important source of social identification for most Hindus and a potent factor in the political life of the country.

Although 80 percent of the people are Hindu, India has one of the world’s largest Muslim populations with 162 million adherents. The majority of them live in North India. The region also includes Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis. Most new converts from these religions experience persecution and oppression from their families and radical religious groups.
