Saria Marantika, Wife of Partner Dr. Chris Marantika, Now Home with the Lord

Dr. Chris Marantika’s beloved wife of 46 years, Dr. Saria Iswari Marantika, went to be with the Lord on Sunday as a result of advanced stages of cancer.

Saria was a treasure to the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Indonesia seminary and university community. She touched many with her kindness and faithfulness. Saria had earned a Ph.D from Biola University in the USA, and was a mentor to many who studied Christian Education under her. She was also a former Muslim, and shared Dr. Chris’s passion to achieve Vision Indonesia 1:1:1 (one church in every one village of Indonesia in one generation).

Dr. Chris first met Allen Finley, our President at the time, in 1977. About that meeting, Allen wrote, “the longer we talked, the more Chris impressed us. The Lord confirmed it in our hearts: we must consider this man. Chris certainly knew what God wanted him to do.”

Thus began a partnership that now has reached 38 years, and has resulted in:

  • 14 seminaries offering Bachelor of Theology degrees and 17 more offering two or three-year diplomas
  • 7300 student graduates
  • 270,000 people coming to Christ
  • More than 4500 churches planted
  • Immanuel University, a high school and an elementary school

Over the years, Dr. Chris traveled to the USA many times, sometimes with Saria or with George Iwan, telling the story of what God was doing in Indonesia through the 1:1:1 vision. Therefore, many here feel close to the Marantika family. Please join with the ETSI community in Indonesia and with the Partners International staff in giving thanks to God for Saria’s life and in supporting this dear family in prayer as they grieve the loss of their wife and mother.

I was so touched by the story of Saria. What a remarkable woman she must have been. I am so sorry for your loss…for your pain. Father, anoint Your Spirit of joy on my brother even in his pain. May the Lord bless you, Dr. Chris…you, your family and your ministry. In my prayers.

Chris and George Iwan, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I thank God for the wonderful example of service to Christ that your family has been to me and so many others. May God comfort you and bring you peace. — Phil Linton, Ward Church, Northville, MI, USA
