We ask for your prayer for the situation in Yemen. The people are going through terrible times and feel as if it is the end of days for them.
In 2011, the economic situation worsened and the Yemeni revolution forced the president to step down. Then civil war broke out. Estimates say that at least 56,000 civilians and combatants have been killed in armed violence in Yemen since January 2016. The war has resulted in a famine affecting 17 million people.
A lack of safe drinking water caused by depleted aquifers and the destruction of the country’s water infrastructure has also caused the largest, fastest-spreading cholera outbreak in modern history, with the number of suspected cases exceeding 994,751. The outbreak began to spread rapidly at the end of April 2017 and more than 2,226 people fled.
Then in 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic alongside the war caused more death and misery. We need to pray for Yemen and our ministry partners serving there. Pray too for a global awareness of what is happening there.
Praise God for local ministry partners who have survived thus far. However, we are sad to say that some believers have been injured or killed.
Recently, the police captured a Muslim background believer and tortured him until he gave names and details of many Muslim background believers and missionaries. A young worker’s name appeared in a five-page police report. His son is less than one year old. One of our partner ministries is asking for help to get him and his family out of the country before he too is captured. The situation of other believers and ministry workers is concerning, but we praise God that they are still sharing hope in Jesus Christ.
Thank you for praying, and if the Lord leads, in giving to help ministry workers in Yemen stay strong. Your gifts will help some leave the country if necessary. May the Lord bless you.
