From Carlos Calderon, Vice President – International Ministries
News has been coming in trickles from Nepal since the earthquake struck. We’ve heard from all the Ministry Partner leaders in Nepal, have not from the Sponsor a Child kids. The news is very descriptive. Utilities are not quite working, water is a problem, people are sleeping in open places, etc. Our sisters and brothers part of our partner ministries are living under the same conditions as they seek to serve those around them.
We are sending our initial financial support to one of the ministry partners maybe even today. There are teams from China, Singapore and India that are cooperating with us, including medical teams, counseling teams and trained relief and development experts. Some of them have undergone training that at some point was part of our services as Partners.
While our goal is to respond to the immediate needs of the people on the ground, our focus is on the long-term service to advance the Gospel in a way that will last beyond the immediate needs posed by this crisis. Positive and negative experiences in our response to previous crises are guiding us as we face this new tragedy.
Please continue praying for our sisters and brothers in Nepal. We are thanking the Lord for the fellowship in His service as our USA supporters continue supporting us in big ways. Our South Asia partners are providing what they have, which is precisely the contextual expertise that is needed at the moment.
Please continue praying for Prem as he coordinates this effort.
