Urgent Need: Kerala and Karnataka Floods

Kerala Floods

a group of workers helping an old womenThis year, the state of Kerala has received an unprecedented 12 feet of rainfall. The resulting floods have wreaked havoc on many communities and have washed away the entire state, leaving only debris behind.

The houses have fallen flat, and major roadways have been blocked off by landslides. Several million people have been displaced by these floods, and about 900,000 people are residing in 2,287 relief camps all around the affected area. The death toll has risen to nearly 300, and many more are still missing.

The Army and Navy have plunged into the rescue and relief efforts and have been working hard for several days now. Many who were stranded were airlifted out, including a woman and her eight-month-old baby who was stranded on her rooftop. There are many stories like this of people coming forward and helping one another, as the ministers, bureaucrats, and commoners are all working together.  Even so, Kerala will take several years to recover from all of this, as the damages created by the floods are unimaginable.

Our partner ministries, BFM and IEM, are helping with these relief efforts, and we are helping them to distribute needed relief materials. The initial estimated cost for the relief work we are doing is $15,000, and after assessing the damages, the rehabilitation process will get started to help the flood victims to get back to their normal lives.

Please continue to pray for the people of Kerala who have been affected by this disaster, and please pray for our ministry partners who have this amazing opportunity be hands and feet for Christ. With their generosity, many may come to the Lord through their loving efforts during this time of need.

Karnataka Floods

Flooding in Karnataka

Eight have been killed and over four thousand have been displaced after heavy rains in Karnataka’s Kodagu district. Over one hundred kilometers of roadways are estimated to be damaged due to the rains, while more than eight hundred homes have been destroyed. Most of the district’s arterial roads have been damaged by landslides, delaying rescue operations. Several villages were also wiped out in this district.

Several coastal districts of Karnataka have been affected by the flood, and an estimated $5,000 will be needed for our relief work in this district.

I am looking for info re: Chuck & Nance Winegarner who worked in Indonesia in the 60-80’s. The e-mail I had for them is obsolete. My folks supported them and after their passing I kept in touch until 12/16. With recent hurricane passing over Pukalani would appreciate any info you can share. Thank you nd God bless you work for His kingdom.
