Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Our last update was about Andi, leader of our first generation of house churches. Just recently, he was looking for work and sharing the gospel in his community. He died unexpectedly on April 12, 2021. He left three generations of groups of believers.
We didn’t know that Andi had passed away until we visited his house. We usually had a meeting every Monday, but on Monday, April 12th, we didn’t meet because there was a special event with all the teams. So, we went to his house on Wednesday to have a discipleship meeting.
When we got to his house, his wife suddenly burst into tears and said, “My husband has died! We wanted to tell you, but we didn’t know where you lived.” We were shocked. I asked how Andi died, because the week before, we had met and he seemed healthy. She said on Sunday, Andi fell off his bicycle and was found unconscious. The people who found him brought him home. The family immediately took him to the hospital. After being treated one night in the hospital, Andi passed away. His wife shared that before he fell, Andi was struggling because he had just lost his job and his blood pressure was high.
Andi believed in Jesus and was baptized in 2017. In early 2018, he began to win his friends to Jesus. In March 2018, he formed a group of three believers. Then, one of those first believers won his friends to Jesus and formed another group of five believers at the end of 2018. Another member shared the good news and in May 2019, another group of three believers was formed. There are multiple groups of believers now, and it all started with Andi sharing the gospel with a few friends.
During his lifetime, Andi hoped that some of his family members would believe in Jesus. His wife and four children have repeatedly heard the gospel, but none of them have believed yet. “I have told them the good news. May God grant them faith,” said Andi at one meeting.
Because Andi has passed away, we met with some of the group leaders and house church members to encourage them to keep worshipping and studying God’s Word. We are going to continue discipling the believers Andi was discipling, so that the work that he accomplished for the gospel will continue.
Andi’s death surprised and saddened us because we had a close relationship with him. He has set an example for us that whatever our problem is, we must surrender it to God and continue to share the good news with others. We hope to continue building a good relationship with Andi’s family and keep sharing the good news with them.
- That we will keep in touch with Andi’s family and that they will remain open for us to meet and share the good news with them.
- For our discipleship with believers that Andi used to disciple.
- For the groups to continue to meet and seek God.
- Pray that God will continue to give us wisdom and creativity in sharing the good news and making disciples.
