Oasis India is working to transform the lives of people that otherwise would not have much hope for their future.
Rabiya, like any little girl, loved studying, but the patriarchal society around her kept putting down her goals because of her gender. In India, 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years old are illiterate.
The issue of gender discrimination, which is highly addressed in many of India’s larger cities, is still a prevalent issue in the rural communities. Her father was not interested in letting her study because of her gender. Her health issues are also a constant struggle. However, through it all she stands tall and aims to achieve her goals. She joined our after-school program in Punganur and is now studying to fulfil her dream of becoming a teacher. Through her participation in this program, she is also being an example in the community for other girls like her.
Our prayer is that she will continue to grow in the Lord and be a blessing to many around her.
