One of our volunteers, Bruce Reinhart, who was on staff with us for five years, is currently on a ‘trip of a lifetime,’ riding across the United States on a bicycle with his son. The trip serves as a great chance both to spend time together and see a lot of incredible places from a unique perspective, but it also has the chance to be much more than that. During the trip, Bruce will be raising awareness, and financial support, for the kids in our ‘Sponsor a Child’ program. The children in our program, particularly those in Nepal, have been on Bruce’s heart for many years, and this is an incredible way for all of us to partner with him in.
The text from his blog is below.
On July 2nd, Nick and I departed from Anacortes, WA, on one of my “dream of a lifetime” experiences. With me pedaling and Nick offering his gracious support, we hope to cross the U.S., arriving in Rehoboth Beach, DE on or about August 18th. For those of you keeping score, that’s about 3,458 miles.
The ride itself would be worthy of doing, no matter the parameters of the trip. But, to have Nick join me for the entire journey was more than I could have imagined. So, time on a bike and lots of time with our son . . . hard to beat that combination.
We also planned for the trip to be a fundraiser for children in some poorer parts of the world. I have spent the last 5 years working for a Christian non-profit organization, Partners International. In countries across the Middle East, Northern Africa, India, and Indonesia, Partners International works with indigenous Christian ministries to not only teach the Bible but to educate children so that someday they may be able to escape the poverty and crime that is rampant in many developing countries.
I have seen that firsthand in India, Jordan, and especially Nepal. A visit to Katmandu in 2015 still haunts my mind and brings memories of children, hungry, scared, and often without parents, but always smiling! During these two months, Nick and I are asking you to consider a donation to continue the education and support for the children of Nepal. Or, should you favor other countries where Partners International serves (as mentioned above), please indicate that on the links that follow.
I am not sure what the next two months will bring. Certainly, a lot of good things, some surprises, and no doubt some challenges. But, I am so thankful that the good Lord has given Nick and me this time together, and to help some other children who are not as fortunate as the two of us.
