A Story from the Flood

A Story from the Flood

The National Christian Network continues to work among the flood-affected victims in Sri Lanka. One of the beneficiaries of this work narrates the extent of the horrible experience that she and her family went through. Nazeema, a widow living with her youngest daughter in the Upper area, thinks that the flood that affected her this year was worse than the one that hit her in 2016. Last year’s flood damaged her house badly, yet she received assistance to repair the damages and replace the broken doors. This year, however, Nazeema and her daughter were left to survive on their own. “There was no one to help us” she expressed to us tearfully. “We are living through a time of great difficulty. We have lost everything in our houses and we don’t even have a bed to sleep on.” Nazeema went on to explain how the water had risen to almost 9 feet one morning at around 4 a.m. She still remembers the helplessness she felt at that time while her house was flooding, because none of her neighbours were willing to come to her aid. “It is a great encouragement to us that we received your help at a time when we were faced with such a difficult situation.”
