How are}

Here are some commonly asked questions about our Sponsor A Child program. Click a question to display the answer.

How are the funds I send used?

Your gifts provide tuition, a uniform, textbooks, school supplies, and evangelistic outreach to your student and his or her family. Some programs also provide meals, fortified milk, medical care, and help with teachers' salaries. Your gifts for your sponsored child are pooled with that of others who also sponsor a child in the same school.

In addition to schooling, your child will have the opportunity to see love in action through Bible clubs, Sunday school classes, or gatherings with our Christian partners who oversee the program. Our ministry partners visit the children's homes and share the Gospel with family members. This personal care breaks down barriers and makes a way for people to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. Many sponsored children come to faith in Jesus and go on to become pastors, ministry workers, teachers, and leaders in their communities.

Will you bill me for payments?

No, you will only receive a receipt, part of which serves as a form to return with your next gift. We do send a reminder note if you get behind in your giving. If for some reason you cannot find your form, just note your child's code number on your check. You may send your gifts monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or yearly.

Does a child have more than one sponsor?

No, each child has only one sponsor. A "sponsor" can be an individual, a family, several friends, a Sunday school class, ladies' circle, school or other group. If a group takes on the sponsorship of a child, we ask that one person serve as the correspondent to receive communications from the child, general mailings from Partners International and to send in the funds. Anyone in the group is welcome to write a letter to the child, but a reply from the child will be sent to the designated correspondent.

How long does a sponsorship last?

This is up to the sponsor, but we trust you will make a commitment for at least one year. Many of our sponsors have been helping children for over 10 years and have found it to be a real source of blessing. However, we understand that circumstances may change and we ask that you let us know if you find it necessary to discontinue your sponsorship.

Will I always have the same child to sponsor?

Yes, as long as the child stays in our program. Many sponsors support their child through the child's entire education. However, some children leave school because they need to work to supplement family income. Some families move away seeking better housing or employment. Sometimes the family's financial situation improves and assistance is no longer needed.

What happens when the child assigned to me leaves the program?

Our field office advises us when any child leaves the program. As soon as we receive this information, we pass it on to the sponsor along with information about another child that he or she may be interested in sponsoring.

Do the children come from Christian homes?

Most of the children come from non-Christian families where they are often required to follow the religion of their parents and grandparents. The children come from Hindu, Muslim, or Buddhist backgrounds along with many varieties of tribal religions. Parents know that education is the only way their child will be able to rise out of poverty, but they are too poor to send their child to school. They are so grateful for your love for their child which often opens the door for further ministry. The sponsorship program presents an excellent opportunity to introduce the love of Christ to those who have not heard.

What kind of schools do the children attend?

The majority of children in the program attend local government schools. In addition to their secular studies, the children receive spiritual guidance from Sponsor A Child workers at Bible club programs and Sunday school classes. These children may also attend church services, camps and other special activities.

May I correspond with my sponsored child?

Yes, the children are always thrilled to receive letters and a picture from their sponsor. A letter from their sponsor makes it easier for them to write to you. Please remember that every letter you write must then be translated and can take up to two months to reach your child. Therefore we cannot promise a flow of letters in a "pen-pal" manner.

Please keep your letters short and simple - tell about yourself, your family, favorite Scripture verse, a pet, special interests, leaving out information about material possessions. Send all letters to Partners International and we will forward them to the field for translation and delivery to the child. Please do not include your address on items going to the child. Be sure that your child's code number is written on all items of correspondence.

May I send gifts to the child I sponsor?

We are happy to have sponsors send money for special occasions such as birthdays. You may add this to your monthly support, or if a separate check, make it payable to Partners International. Please make it clear that the extra money is to be used to buy a gift for your child. Yours and the gifts of other sponsors are pooled by the field to buy gifts for all the SAC children in that program. This will help avoid hard feelings or disappointment among the children, some of whom don't have a sponsor. We also have a special fund for the children's Christmas party and gifts called Christmas Cheer. All Christmas love offerings are placed into this fund, so that all the children share equally in the blessings. We cannot send packages to the children; however, we will gladly forward to the children small, flat, inexpensive gifts such as photos, bookmarks, postcards, and stickers.

How often will I hear from my sponsored child?

The children will write two letters plus a Christmas greeting during the school year.

May I visit my sponsored child?

The ministries are delighted to have sponsors visit the children, if at all possible. Some of the children live in remote locations or areas where foreign visitors are not allowed or where it would be very difficult to travel. But generally, something can be worked out and it is a blessing to both child and sponsor. Please let us know well in advance of your visit. We cannot ask the child's family to entertain the sponsor, but we will do all we can to arrange for a nice visit with an interpreter present, if needed.

What if I have questions about my sponsorship or my child?

Please feel free to email or call us at (800) 966-5515 any time you have a question regarding our program in general or a specific question about your child. It is our earnest desire that your relationship with your sponsored child be meaningful for you.

What is Partners International and what are some results of the Sponsor A Child program?

Partners International is a global ministry that works to create and grow communities of Christian witness in partnership with God's people in the least Christian regions of the world.

This concept of partnership works well with the Sponsor A child program as children are the building blocks of any society. Our child sponsorship programs are part of a larger strategy with our ministry partners to build the Body of Christ in their country. Through child sponsorship, individual children and their families have come to faith in the Savior, and churches have been started. Many sponsored children grow up to serve as "evangelists" to their own families and communities. Many go on to Bible school and become full-time Christian workers.

Partners International's Sponsor A Child program is opening doors for evangelism and church planting, from remote villages to teeming cities. There is a boy or girl in one of the least Christian regions of the world who would be thrilled to have you as a sponsor. Will you consider changing the life of a child?

As a 501(c)3 organization, gifts to Partners International are tax deductible.
