Thank you to all of our Harvest of Hope® faithful for making Christmas 2011 abound with life-changing gifts! From Bibles to goats to motorbikes—your gifts equipped our partners with tangible tools to care for the poor, share the Gospel, and expand their ministry efforts.
"Because of the Harvest of Hope® event on campus, I realized how gift giving can hold eternal value this Christmas—by helping those in need,” said student Maddy Heath. “To give is better than to receive, and this opportunity through Harvest of Hope® is something I will always remember. It will make a much bigger impact than any other gift I could ask for. Plus, I got to hold such a cute goat!" —Maddy Heath, Whitworth University student
For the second year, college students at Whitworth University snuggled some goats to raise awareness and support for Harvest of Hope® on campus. Many of the students pledged to ask for a goat for Christmas from their family members or friends in lieu of a regular Christmas gift. Because of them, dozens of poor families in places like Senegal and Mali will be able to start a new, sustainable goat-raising business. Many thanks to the Whitworth family for hosting our "Goat Monday" event!
We are privileged to have many volunteers serving with us! Among them is Sondra McCarty, who prides herself on being born the exact year that Partners International was started: 1943. Sondra has been a volunteer with Partners International Women from the first days this initiative was launched in 2005. Sondra volunteers in the PIW office several times a month and on our event teams. But, most of all and best of all, she prays faithfully for all that we do!
"I am blessed beyond measure to have the opportunity to serve God with Partners International Women. It gives me purpose to have the opportunity to pray for Kim [PIW Director] as well as the rest of the volunteers who travel. Through praying and serving here at home, I am able to travel vicariously through others who do. One of my greatest gifts is praying for the women and children and being able to support them financially when I can. There is power in one woman joining forces with others. Volunteering gives me an outlet to be the woman God created me to be." —Sondra McCarty, Partners International Women volunteer
More than 130 runners and walkers participated in Partners International’s Team Running Water in May 2011, our first effort to gather runners for the cause of clean water at 2011’s Bloomsday road race in Spokane. One participant, Marisa Van Wormer, ran with us. She shares why this cause is near to her heart:
"Thanks for the opportunity to fundraise through Team Running Water! I am very passionate about clean water because I have been to Africa and seen the muddy holes that families collect dirty water from. When my husband and I went to Ethiopia to pick up our adopted daughter Tenaye, many kids in the orphanage were suffering from waterborne illnesses, and some of these problems they will have to deal with for the rest of their lives. I ran the best and fastest race I have ever run, and I was brought to tears as I crossed the finish line. The Lord truly gave me wings! The Lord helped me meet and exceed my running and fundraising goals. To Him be the glory forever and ever!" —Marisa Van Wormer, Team Running Water participant
Tree of Life Lord’s Harvest Christian Church may be small in number, but its mission-hearted members are making a big impact. Located in Fremont, California, this church has developed partnerships with our ministry partners in Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, and India.
And in the last few years, groups of church members have personally visited them all through our Global Learning Exchange program. Working together with Partners, they have sent 13 short-term ministry teams to the field over the last four years and have developed lasting relationships with our field leaders.
Under the leadership of Senior Pastor James Jih and Pastor Agnes Hoang who heads the church’s mission committee, the church has become passionate about helping our partner Bible Faith Mission build church buildings for the Dalits (“untouchables”) of India. Local Dalit believers donate the land, construct the foundation, and offer manual labor. Funds raised by Tree of Life Church are used to buy building materials for the church buildings.

The whole Tree of Life Church has gotten involved, even the children! They have held a movie night, prayer for India night, a luncheon, recycling drives, car washes and piggybank drives—all to help Dalit believers in India have a church building of their own. To our friends at Tree of Life—thank you for your giving hearts!
