Awakening in the Arab World

Posted on 19 Dec 2011 · By Matt Kirkas

Celebration in Libya

Our Middle East Area Director reflects on 2011’s “Arab Spring”—the massive wave of political protests that swept across the Middle East and North Africa last year.

We are living in a time that might never be repeated in the Arab world during our generation. Daily we see scenes of youth filling the streets to protest the oppression they have lived under for their entire lifetime. These youth, connected to one another via social media, are changing their world. The Arab Spring was initiated by a 26-year-old fruit vendor in Tunisia and has already led to the toppling of governments in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya. Yemen and Syria appear to be teetering as well. This bears testimony to what a single person can do to change the world.

Outreach to Muslims

Help Now

Partners International is privileged to serve together with others who are working to change their world. Each day, Arab men and women are sharing the Gospel with Muslims around them. Partners International recognizes that right now is the opportunity for our generation to step up and enable the Arab Church to bring Christ’s message of hope to those around them.

Now more than ever we need to stand alongside our brothers and sisters in this land. Countries that have overthrown their oppressors have seen an unleashing of Islamic political forces. We don’t know what this will mean for religious freedom and minority Christian rights. This is the time for the Church to do all that we can to testify for Christ. “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work” (John 9:4).
